Port Streets

Family-Friendly Neighborhood in the Heart of Newport Beach.

Harbor View Homes, also known locally as the “Port Streets,” is one of the most desired kid and family-friendly communities in Newport Beach for many reasons, including its own Blue Ribbon award-winning elementary school located right in the center. The neighborhood surrounds a beautiful and lush greenbelt, made up of ball parks and fields, nature trails, playgrounds, clubhouses, and two pools hosting community swim teams. The Port Streets were originally built in the late 1960’s and have kept much of the charm that initially attracted so many families to raise their families in this unique community, although many of the original homes have been replaced with larger custom homes ranging from the more traditional Cape Cod to today’s Modern Farmhouse, providing for a variety of price points and unique styles. Conveniently, the Port Streets are centrally located right off the 73 highway for ease of commuting, near Fashion Island, and only minutes from Orange County’s most beautiful beaches.

Andersen Elementary School

In the heart of the Port Streets lies Andersen Elementary School, designated a California Distinguished and Blue Ribbon School. Part of the Mesa Unified School District, Andersen serves approximately 360 students in grades transitional kindergarten through sixth. The school first opened in 1973 and is named after a former school superintendent, Roy O. Andersen. There is a strong partnership that exists in our community with an abundance of parent involvement. The school staff works closely with parents to promote learning, personal growth, and high self-esteem. Andersen’s address is 1900 Port Seabourne Way.

Andersen Blacktop

Located in the center of the neighborhood is the Andersen Elementary blacktop.  Gates are open to the public after school on weekdays, all weekend, and all summer, where you will find kids playing with friends. There are 3 basketball courts with regular 10-foot hoops, and 1 smaller court with 8-foot hoops. The blacktop also has 3 playgrounds, and places set up for four square, wall ball, and even a Gaga Ball Court. Kids also love to come here to ride their skateboards, bikes, and roller skates.

Phase 1 Fields

On the backside of Andersen Elementary, you will find the Phase 1 fields, which includes soccer fields and baseball diamonds. The Newport Beach Baseball Association hosts their games here, and various soccer teams also utilize the fields for practices and games. The baseball fences are temporary and only up during the Spring. Year round, you’ll find the local kids playing sports like lacrosse and flag football. Not to mention, it’s a great spot to bring your dog and meet other dog owners.

Playgrounds

The Port Streets playgrounds are great spots for kids to make friends and meet other parents.  Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 have playgrounds with grassy areas and picnic tables. Phase 1 has covered picnic tables, perfect for casual playdate meet-ups, snack time, and birthday parties. These playgrounds include large play structures with monkey bars, slides, swings, bridges, and seesaws.

Phase 1 Picnic Area

In Phase 1, there is a picnic area between Port Bristol and Port Abbey, on the far side of the playground. Here you will find picnic tables, plenty of trees for climbing, and open green space.  Kids love to climb the trees and play pick-up games.

Phase 2 Picnic Area

Another kid and family friendly amenity in this fabulous neighborhood is the Phase 2 picnic area, located on the other side of the clubhouse from the playground. With a sprawling green field and covered picnic tables, it is the perfect spot to host parties and events.

Nature Park

The hidden gem of the neighborhood is the nature park, behind Newport Hills Drive at the end of Phase 2. There are walking paths, shaded by plenty of trees, and a creek in the middle of a heavily wooded area. The kids love playing here, where you can even find crawdads in the creek! In the spring, the area is covered with beautiful wildflowers, a great backdrop for family portraits. Besides being a great walk and kids play destination, it’s also a great path for biking, golf carts, and running. The nature park begins at the crosswalk at the far end of phase 2 on Newport Hills Dr, and leads out to the Gelson’s shopping center on San Miguel Dr.

Bonita Canyon Sports Park Part 1

Being a Port Streets resident definitely has its perks! Bonita Canyon Sports Park is split up into two separate parts. Where Ford Road ends at the North West corner of the neighborhood, there are two tennis courts, pickleball courts, a basketball court, soccer fields, and an amphitheater for informal events. You’ll always find people staying active here, playing tennis and pickle ball every day, soccer practice during the week, and games on the weekends. If you’re a pickle ball player, there are a total of 8 courts. The courts do not take reservations but the organized drop-in play runs Monday through Friday, 8:00am to Noon and Saturdays 9:00am to Noon. The courts are not lighted. The playground at this section of the park is suitable for younger kids, ages 2-5. There is another playground down the street more suitable for older children. This would be an ideal location for a child’s birthday party as you are allowed to have a bounce house here. Additionally, this park offers free parking, nice restrooms, drinking fountains, and plenty of picnic tables and benches. The address is 1641 Ford Rd, Newport Beach, CA 92660 and the park hours are 7 am to 10 pm. Port Street residents have easy access to the park via paths from Port Manleigh and the North West corner of Phase 1.
